The CanvasLive webinar event, “Tools for the Instructional Designer: Leveraging Design Tools for Effective Teaching and Training” on April 4, 2018 hosted a record number of attendees.
Kenzi Egan, manager of the Strategic Partner marketing team at Instructure, said, “attendance was over four times the average number of attendees in the past” with 200 people registered to attend.
Design Tools creator Kenneth Larsen kicked off the CanvasLive event with a live overview followed by presentations by customers at Florida State and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Universities.
John L. Crow (FSU) and Emily Ackerman (ERAU) demonstrated the ways Design Tools supports an institutional look and feel, fosters engagement among teachers and students, and saves time with templates which not only help disseminate information, but also keep the right information (like institutional policies) up to date.
Other topics of interest included Design Tool’s accessibility features and how they augment Canvas’ tools. Larsen demonstrated the algorithm that adjusts for black or white text on a colored background with live WCAG 2.0 rating updates on the page.
Design Tools features, like the ability to mark images as “decorative,” or check headings on a page for the appropriate style and architecture, supply appropriate content to be read out loud by screen reading systems.
